1. Visit David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (Elephant Orphanage)
This wildlife trust is one of the most pioneering animal rehabilitation centres in the world. Young, orphaned elephants and rhinos, the victims of poaching and human-wildlife conflicts, are nurtured back to health. To date, it is the proud mother over 150 elephant calves. Between 11am and midday daily, visitors can watch the slurps and gurgles of young orphans being fed as their keepers skilfully administer their supersize feeding bottles. If you’re moved by this humble feat, adopt a young orphan elephant and follow its inspiring journey firsthand.
2. ENJOY A GAME DRIVE AND PICNIC IN THE NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK.
Nairobi National Park is Kenya’s oldest national park. It is also the best places to see wildlife when visiting the city. Plan at least half a day, inclusive of the time it will take to drive to and from, to explore this park. Nairobi National park provides a great option for persons on short time and looking for adventure not far from Nairobi.
The park is open everyday Monday to Sunday and the best visiting times for a great game drive is Early morning as from 6 am - 12 noon or Evening Game drive as from 2pm - 6pm. Wildlife includes the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse bird life with over 400 species recorded.
3. VISIT THE GIRRAFFE CENTRE
Located 12 kilometers from Nairobi's city center, the Giraffe Centre offers visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with these friendly giants. The Giraffe Centre in Nairobi is an amazing place to visit. It started as a rehabilitation project to rescue the Rothschild Giraffe. There were only 120 giraffes left in a ranch in Western Kenya when the Giraffe Center was founded. The actual non profit organization is called the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya (AFEW). The original house of the founders has been converted into a very impressive boutique hotel called the Giraffe Manor. At the Giraffe Center you are able to site on top of a platform and stand eye to eye with the Giraffes. You are given small pellets to feed the Giraffes and there are unlimited refills. Across from the Giraffe Center is a small nature walk that features two other giraffes and a variety of unique plants and birds.
4. TAKE A WALK IN THE CITY AND VISIT THE ROOF TOP OF THE KICC & ENJOY A MATATU RIDE
Nairobi is renowned for its pimped public transport (Matatu) you can enjoy a matatu ride and later take a guides walk through the city of Nairobi visiting the monuments scattered across town. One of the most common monument is the Kimathi statue and the World war statues along Kenyatta avenue. After the tur, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a platter of mouth watering swahili lunch in the city from one of the best swahili dishes restaurants.
